Halloween is coming, and you know what is actually scary? How many San Antonio auto shops are invisible online. They do great work, charge fair prices, and treat customers right…but when someone searches “auto repair near me,” they are nowhere to be found.
If that sounds like you, do not worry. Local SEO problems are fixable, and most of them are simpler than you think. Here is a no-nonsense checklist to clean up your online presence before the year ends. For more on auto shop marketing, our Google Business Profile guide for auto services in fall and Valentine’s content marketing for auto shops cover additional seasonal strategies.
The Frighteningly Common NAP Problem
NAP…Name, Address, Phone number. If these are inconsistent across the internet, Google gets confused about who you are and where you are. And confused Google does not rank you.
For more on keeping your auto shop visible year-round, our customer retention guide for San Antonio auto shops covers complementary strategies. Check your information on:
- Your website
- Google Business Profile
- Yelp
- Yellow Pages
- BBB
- Any industry directories (RepairPal, Carfax, AutoMD)
Everything should match exactly. “123 Main St” on one site and “123 Main Street” on another is technically inconsistent. Pick one format and use it everywhere. This one fix alone can improve your local rankings.
The Haunted House of Missing Citations
Citations are mentions of your business on other websites…directories, review sites, local business listings. The more high-quality citations you have, the more Google trusts that your business is legitimate.
If you are only listed on Google and Facebook, you are missing out. Get listed on:
- Yelp (if you are not already)
- Nextdoor (neighbors recommend shops here constantly)
- San Antonio Chamber of Commerce directory
- BBB
- Yellow Pages and White Pages online
- Foursquare
- Apple Maps
There are services that will submit your business to dozens of directories for a flat fee. It is worth the investment.
The Skeleton Crew Website
If your website is a single page with your phone number and address, it is a skeleton…barely alive. Google needs content to understand what you do and where you do it.
At minimum, your website should have:
- A homepage with a clear description of your services and location
- Individual service pages for each major service: oil changes, brake repair, engine diagnostics, AC service, tire sales, transmission repair
- An about page with your story, your team, and your credentials
- A contact page with a map, directions, hours, and multiple contact options
Each service page should mention San Antonio and your specific neighborhoods. “Brake repair in San Antonio…serving Stone Oak, Alamo Heights, and the Northeast Side” helps you rank for those hyperlocal searches.
The Ghost Town Google Profile
A Google Business Profile with no reviews, no photos, and no posts is a ghost town. Potential customers see it and assume you are either closed or not worth their time.
Fix it this week:
- Add 15 to 20 photos of your shop, your team, and recent work
- Ask five customers for reviews this week
- Post your first Google Post about a fall special
Trick or Treat: The Review Response
Here is a trick that most auto shops miss: responding to reviews is a ranking factor. Google confirms that businesses that respond to reviews are considered more trustworthy.
Respond to every review. For positive ones, thank the customer and mention the service you performed: “Thanks for the kind words, Mark! Glad we could get your brakes fixed before the holiday weekend.” For negative ones, stay professional and offer a resolution.
No More Excuses
These local SEO fixes do not require a big budget or technical expertise. They require attention and consistency…two things every successful auto shop already has in its DNA. Fix these issues this October and finish the year strong.
