The Complete Google Business Profile Guide for Beauty Salons

When someone in San Antonio types “hair salon near me” into Google, three businesses show up in that map pack at the top of the results. If your salon isn’t one of them, you’re invisible to the people most ready to book. Your Google Business Profile is the single most important piece of free marketing real estate you have. Here’s how to make it work.

Claim and Complete Every Field

If you haven’t claimed your Google Business Profile yet, stop reading and do that first. Go to business.google.com and verify your listing. Once you’re in, fill out absolutely everything. Business name, address, phone, website, hours, services, service area…all of it.

Google ranks complete profiles higher than incomplete ones. It’s that simple. Don’t skip the business description either…write 2-3 sentences that include what you do, where you are, and who you serve. “Full-service hair salon in the heart of Olmos Park offering cuts, color, extensions, and bridal styling for San Antonio clients.”

Photos Are Non-Negotiable

Salons are visual businesses. Your profile should have at least 20 photos: your storefront, your stations, your team at work, finished styles, and the overall vibe of your space. Update them monthly.

Profiles with photos get 42% more requests for directions and 35% more website clicks. If your last uploaded photo is from 2021, you’re telling Google (and potential clients) that you’ve gone quiet. A salon near Lincoln Heights started posting weekly before-and-after shots and saw profile views jump within a month. We also covered the importance of seasonal profile updates in our guide on Google Business Profile tips for salons around Valentine’s Day.

Services and Products Section

Google lets you list your individual services with descriptions and prices. Use this. When someone searches for “balayage San Antonio” and your profile lists balayage as a service with a description and price range, you’re far more likely to appear in results.

Add every service you offer: haircuts, color, keratin treatments, waxing, lash extensions…whatever you do. Be specific about what each service includes.

Reviews: Your Digital Word of Mouth

Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest times for salons. Every client who walks out happy this week is a potential five-star review. Ask them. Hand them a card with a QR code. Send a follow-up text with a direct link.

Respond to every review within 24 hours. For positive reviews, thank them and mention something specific. For negative reviews, apologize sincerely, take the conversation offline, and fix the problem. Future clients are reading those responses. During busy seasons, your profile matters even more – see how to leverage Dia de los Muertos and Halloween for local SEO opportunities.

Post Regularly on Your Profile

Google Business Profiles have a built-in posting feature that most salons ignore completely. Post weekly updates: Valentine’s Day specials, new stylists joining the team, product launches, or quick hair care tips for San Antonio’s humidity. These posts show up right on your profile and signal to Google that your business is active. Once your profile is driving traffic, make sure your website is optimized to convert those visitors into bookings.

Take 30 Minutes This Week

Set a timer and update your profile. Add photos, respond to reviews, write a post about your February specials. Thirty minutes of work can change how many people find you this month.
