And the businesses that appear in that local map pack at the top of the results get the calls. If your construction company isn’t showing up there, you’re losing bids before you even know they exist. Here’s how to fix your Google Business Profile.
Choose the Right Categories
Google lets you pick a primary category and several secondary categories. Don’t just choose “Construction Company” and call it done. If you specialize in bathroom remodeling, kitchen renovation, deck building, or concrete work, add those as secondary categories.
The more specific your categories, the more specific searches you’ll appear in. Someone searching “deck builder near me” in the 78249 zip code is far more likely to find you if “Deck Builder” is one of your listed categories.
Project Photos Are Your Portfolio
Your Google Business Profile photo gallery should function as a mini-portfolio. Upload at least 30 photos showing a range of projects: residential remodels, commercial builds, outdoor living spaces, structural work. Include before-and-after shots whenever possible.
Label your photos with descriptive file names before uploading…“kitchen-remodel-alamo-heights-2023.jpg” is better than “IMG_4582.jpg.” While Google’s ability to read file names is debated, it certainly doesn’t hurt, and it keeps you organized.

Collect Reviews Like They’re Change Orders
In construction, reviews carry enormous weight. A $50,000 remodeling project is a major investment, and homeowners want proof that you deliver. Every completed project should end with a review request.
Create a standard process: on final walkthrough day, hand the client a card with a QR code linked to your Google review page. Follow up three days later with a text or email. “We loved working on your home…if you have a minute, a Google review helps other San Antonio homeowners find us.”
Aim for reviews that mention specific project types and locations. “They did an incredible job on our bathroom remodel in Stone Oak” is SEO gold.
Post Weekly Updates
The posting feature on Google Business Profiles is criminally underused by construction companies. Post weekly updates showing current projects, recently completed work, or seasonal promotions.
“Just completed a full backyard patio build in the Dominion. Outdoor living season is here…schedule your consultation now.” Include a photo and a call to action. These posts keep your profile fresh and give Google more signals that you’re an active, relevant business.
Answer Questions Proactively
Add 5-10 frequently asked questions to your profile’s Q&A section: “Do you offer free estimates?” “Are you licensed and insured?” “What areas of San Antonio do you serve?” “How long does a typical remodel take?”
These answers appear on your profile and can show up in search results. They also prequalify leads…someone who reads your FAQ and still contacts you is a serious prospect.
