Mid-Year SEO Pivot: What Professional Services Firms Should Do Now

July is halftime. If your SEO strategy for 2023 hasn’t delivered the results you expected…or if you haven’t had a strategy at all…this is your chance to pivot. For accounting firms, law offices, consulting practices, and financial advisors in San Antonio, the second half of the year is where smart SEO moves pay off.

Audit What’s Actually Ranking

Open Google Search Console (if you haven’t set it up, do it today…it’s free). Look at which search queries are bringing people to your site. You might be surprised. Maybe you’re ranking for terms you didn’t target, or maybe your target keywords aren’t showing up at all.

Sort by impressions to see where Google is showing your site but people aren’t clicking. Those are opportunities…improving your page title and meta description for those queries can boost your click-through rate without any other changes.

Fix Your Service Pages

Most professional services websites have one or two service pages that try to cover everything. That’s a missed opportunity. Each service should have its own dedicated page with unique content.

Instead of one “Services” page, create individual pages: “Small Business Accounting in San Antonio,” “Estate Planning Attorney Near Alamo Heights,” “HR Consulting for San Antonio Companies.” Each page should be 400-600 words, explain the service clearly, mention the San Antonio area specifically, and include a call to action.

A financial advisory firm that split their single services page into five individual pages saw organic traffic to those pages increase by 65% within four months. We refined this approach in our 2024 summer SEO guide for professional services.

Build Local Authority

Google trusts businesses that other local entities vouch for. Get listed on the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce directory. Join the local bar association or CPA society if you haven’t already. Sponsor a local event and get a link on their website. Write a guest article for a San Antonio business publication.

Each of these creates a local backlink that tells Google you’re a legitimate, active business in the San Antonio area. Quality beats quantity…one link from the SA Chamber is worth more than 50 links from random directories.

Refresh Old Content

If you published blog posts or articles earlier this year (or in previous years), update them. Add new information, update any statistics, and make sure they’re still relevant. Google favors recently updated content, and refreshing an old post takes far less effort than writing a new one from scratch.

Change the publication date to reflect the update, add a note that it’s been updated, and re-share it on social media. This one tactic can breathe new life into content that’s already proven it can rank.

Set Q3 and Q4 Goals

Don’t just “do SEO”…set specific targets. “Rank on page one for ‘business attorney San Antonio’ by October.” “Get 10 new Google reviews in Q3.” “Publish two new service pages by August.” Specific goals give you something to measure and keep you accountable.

Write them down, check progress monthly, and adjust as needed. SEO is a long game, but it’s a game you can win if you play it consistently.

The Second Half Starts Now

You don’t need a massive budget or a full-time marketing team. You need clarity, consistency, and a few hours a month dedicated to the work. Start this week. When Q4 arrives, our content marketing plan for professional services before year-end will help you close the year strong. And don’t forget to lock in client retention so the clients you attract actually stay.
