When a San Antonio homeowner needs a contractor, the first thing they do is Google it. “General contractor near me.” “Home remodeling San Antonio.” “Deck builder Stone Oak.” If your construction company doesn’t show up in those results…or shows up with a bare-bones profile…you’re invisible.
Your Google Business Profile is often the very first thing a potential client sees. Here’s how to make it count.
Fill Out Every Single Field
Google rewards completeness. That means:
- Business category: Pick the most specific one. “General Contractor” is fine, but add secondary categories like “Home Builder,” “Remodeling Contractor,” or “Concrete Contractor” as applicable
- Service area: List every city and neighborhood you serve…Boerne, Bulverde, New Braunfels, Helotes, Fair Oaks Ranch
- Services: Add each service individually with descriptions
- Business description: 750 characters to explain who you are, what you do, and where you work. Use it all
A construction company that lists “custom home building, kitchen remodeling, bathroom renovation, outdoor living spaces, and commercial tenant improvements” will rank for more searches than one that just says “construction services.” We covered the category and services setup in detail in our 2023 GBP secrets for construction companies.
Photos Are Non-Negotiable
Construction is visual. Your profile should have at least 20-30 photos showing:
- Completed projects (exterior and interior)
- In-progress work (people love watching things get built)
- Your team on site (hard hats, tools, real work)
- Your trucks and equipment (builds credibility)
Update photos monthly. A profile with recent photos ranks higher than one with photos from two years ago. We covered the full photo and category strategy in our 2023 GBP guide for construction companies.
Ask for Reviews After Every Job
This is the single biggest factor in local search rankings. After completing a project…a kitchen remodel in Terrell Hills, a patio build in Shavano Park, a commercial buildout near the Medical Center…ask the client for a Google review.
Make it easy: send a direct link via text or email. Don’t be shy about it. Most satisfied clients are happy to help…they just need a nudge. Those reviews also strengthen your case when you work on retaining clients for future projects.
Post Project Updates Weekly
Use the Google Business Profile posts feature to share weekly updates. A photo of a current project with a brief description keeps your profile active and shows Google you’re engaged.
“Week 3 of a full kitchen remodel in Alamo Heights. New cabinets are in, countertops go in Monday.” Simple. Effective. Real.
Start Today
Your Google Business Profile is free, powerful, and probably underperforming. Spend an hour this week bringing it up to speed. The leads it generates will pay you back many times over. Pair it with a solid social media presence and your construction company will be the obvious choice online.
