January is your busiest month. Everyone made resolutions. They want to lose weight, start yoga, try acupuncture, finally see a therapist. They’re searching online right now. Your social media presence should be ready for this rush too.
The question is: when they land on your website, do they book…or bounce?
If your site loads slowly, looks like it was built in 2014, or doesn’t clearly tell people what you offer and how to schedule, you’re losing clients to the studio down the street with a better website.
Speed Matters More Than You Think
Google has been clear about this: page speed is a ranking factor. But forget Google for a second. Think about your potential client. She’s sitting in her car in the Quarry Village parking lot, searching “yoga studio near me” on her phone. Your site takes 6 seconds to load. She’s already tapped the back button and clicked on your competitor.
Test your site speed at PageSpeed Insights. If your mobile score is below 70, you’ve got work to do. Common fixes:
- Compress your images (those giant hero photos are killing you)
- Remove plugins or scripts you’re not using
- Switch to faster hosting if your current provider is sluggish
Make Booking Effortless
The number one job of your website is to get people to take action. For health and wellness businesses, that usually means booking an appointment.
Put your booking button everywhere. Top of the page. Middle of the page. Bottom of the page. Don’t make people hunt for it.
If you’re still asking people to call during business hours to schedule, you’re leaving money on the table. Online booking tools like Jane, Acuity, or even a simple Calendly link remove friction. Once people are booking, keep them engaged with email marketing strategies tailored for wellness businesses.
Write For Humans, Optimize for Google
Your service pages should clearly describe what you do, who it’s for, and where you are. A page titled “Services” with a bulleted list isn’t enough.
Instead, write a dedicated page for each service. “Prenatal Massage in San Antonio” is a page that can rank. “Deep Tissue Massage Near Southtown” is another. Each page should have:
- A clear H1 with the service name and location
- 200-400 words describing the service, benefits, and what to expect
- A booking CTA
- A photo of your actual space (not a stock photo)
Mobile First, Always
Over 60% of your traffic is coming from phones. If your site looks great on a desktop but breaks on mobile, most visitors will never see the good version.
Check your site on your own phone. Tap every button. Fill out every form. If anything is clunky, fix it now while your New Year motivation is still fresh. And while you’re at it, make sure your local SEO is dialed in for Fiesta season so all that website traffic converts into booked appointments.
