How To Start A Window Cleaning Business: The One Quantum Leap of Faith You Need To Take To Avoid Instant Burn-Out

SPOILER(!!!): If you want to start a window cleaning business, buy nice equipment.

Start a window cleaning business like I did. This photo was taken on my very first job as a business owner!

Grandpaw always said “buy once, cry once.”

If you don’t hold this to be a fundamental law of God’s carefully crafted universe, you must still be new to the game.

That’s fine. It just means you haven’t yet contemplated throwing yourself off the top of your extension ladder mid-job over the garbaggio tools you’ve condemned yourself to using.

A word to the unwise: buy the “expensive” equipment.

Case-in-point: I personally suffered through a couple squeegee handles in my window cleaning days, until I found the Moerman Excelerator 2.0.

That changed the game for me.

It’s very comfortable to hold and the adjustable angle makes hours-long jobs just a little less strenuous–any seasoned professional knows that “little bit” may be the difference between you going on to make some sweet moolah in this business, and throwing in the towel after a couple months of sore arms (you poor baby!)

The problem with handles like this is they come with big-ole plastic blade channels. You’re never going to get in those tight window corners with massive chunks of plastic playing bumper cars with the window frame.

That’s why I outfitted mine with an Ettore brass channel. It’s low-profile, won’t corrode, and is very easy to wipe down in between squeegee pulls.

Lucky for you, you can buy the handle with this brass channel here.

I recommend 14″ for the channel, as it’s a nice do-it-all channel length.

The real punchline here?

This “expensive” equipment is $40.

Stop trying to cut corners on such small dollar amounts. You’re trying to start a window cleaning business, aren’t you?

Nobody ever got rich by being a chump.

That’s my testimony on tis squeegee setup. I’ll do you one better than that; I’ll give you everything I bought to get started myself.

No B.S.

This is what I did to start off, and it worked exceedingly well for me.

Here’s the full shopping list you’re gonna need:

    • Dawn and white vinegar (A couple bucks. Go to the grocery store or the dollar store.)

This is everything you need to start a window cleaning business. $511 bucks.

You’ll make that back, with profit, in two jobs. Flat.

This will hold you over until it’s time to buy your first truck (if you’re in San Antonio, it’s probably a vinyl-wrapped Cybertruck…yowch…), a water-fed system, and a water tank…

(A.K.A. time to spend some real-deal shmoney!)

…but by then you’ll have a book of clients and some much-needed hairs on your chest.

Not comfortable with the spend? I won’t say book your jobs and then buy it all, since you’ll be liable if shipping takes too long…BUT!–

…nothing’s stopping you from returning all of your unused equipment if you can’t get your first couple jobs within the return period.

If you don’t think you can get all the clients you need (see: 2) during your equipment return period, I have a unique opportunity for you:

I’m going to give away my marketing secrets to one (1!) person who I will work with for $47 for one month. No commitments–if you don’t like the results we get, we’ll part ways after one month, and you’ll be free to go nurse your $47 boo-boo.
